Exploring the future of text mining at the ASC International Conference
25 May 2011
Dave Morgans, Futures Manager at ORC international will be discussing the application of text mining at the ASC 6th International Conference in September.
Using his experience of delivering text mining solutions direct to clients, Dave will address the conference with his views on the current and future challenges of using text mining within the research industry. He will highlight the benefits of text analysis, and discuss issues that have been overcome in processing, analysing and reporting on textual survey data.
Forms of text mining and analysis tools have been used in research fields, including mainstream customer, employee and social research, for some time. These have included solutions such as first and second generation natural language processing (NLP) software as well as various coding tools.
Dave will talk about the barriers of developing and maintaining a text mining offer across different areas of research. He will examine the capabilities of the current generation of software solutions which include data cleaning tools, sentiment analysis, keyword/phrase extraction and NLP comprehension.
Before text mining is more widely accepted as a core requirement in standard research studies, software providers and research agencies will continue to face a number of challenges. Dave will elaborate on these future challenges and conclude by opening up a forum for questions and debate.
The event entitled, ASC 6th International Conference: Shifting the Boundaries of Research, takes place on 22 and 23 September at Wills Hall, Bristol University.
