Introduction
We will introduce the concept of employee engagement and show how consultation with employees can help organisations improve their engagement, detailing its importance for individuals and the organisation as a whole.

Excellence: state-of-the-art approach to surveying
We will then explore the state-of-the-art approach to surveying across three key areas:

  • Data collection – we will discuss advances in survey methods including online surveying, Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and paper surveying.
  • Measuring employee engagement – we will review the elements of employee engagement including the model Say/Stay/Strive, the concept of hearts and minds, and then look at the differences in engagement between Australia and other countries around the globe.
  • Ensuring action – lastly, before the break, we will look at how to make sure that action takes place after the survey finishes. This will involve examining issues such as usable reporting, how to best utilise open comments, how statistical analysis can assist and action planning approaches.
